Pandemics, Protests, and Personal Data: Privacy in 2020

2020 has been a constant assault on our lives, from the global pandemic to protest movements and socially distanced political campaigning and voting. Experts, advocates, and ordinary citizens have been busy addressing each of these – and more! – with novel and ambitious proposals. As varied as all of these innovative solutions are, they all have one thing in common: their reliance on personal data. But, as with any use of personal data, there are attendant privacy risks to individuals and society. The rapid development of large-scale programs in our unusual circumstances prompts the need for careful consideration of the use and protection of personal data along the way. Join us to discuss the privacy issues of the day and learn about the practices that should guide program design.
